While I was listening to the podcast one of the strategies I used to concentrate and make sure I understood the content of the podcast was killing the distraction of other sounds around me, I did this by using headphones to listen to the podcast instead of aloud so I wouldn’t hear anything else going on in the house at the time. Another strategy I used was to turn of all notifications and screens on other devices around my work space so that nothing would make my eyes focus on a notification that has nothing to do with the podcast.
I found that these strategies were very helpful in the sense of being able to keep myself focused on what was happening in the podcast and nothing else, I found that having absolutely nothing to distract me at all was very helpful and it also gave me the ability to engage and have a good understanding of what the podcast was about.
I think that next time I am going to listen to a podcast I might sit on the couch instead of a computer chair for comfort reasons, otherwise I would stick to the same this I did for this podcast to keep myself concentrated on the podcast.
When listening the brain remembers things being spoke even when you aren’t directly paying attention when it was being said, whereas reading requires you to flip through pages and reread something instead. This is because when listening your brain can require echoic memory which allows you to remember something we’ve heard without paying attention. Reading requires you to reread and make sure you have a full understanding of the text before moving along with the reading.
